How to unlock races in Dawn of War: Soulstorm (Fix – PC)
Warhammer 40,000 – Dawn of War is a great RTS series but the way they handle their expansions installations for multiplayer really stinks. Each expansion (Winter Assault, Dark Crusade and Soulstorm) is a standalone installation for single-player campaign with all races available, but if you want to play multiplayer then you need to install the applicable expansion to get those races unlocked. This balloons the full installation to over 15 gigs which is a lot of HD space. So here’s what you can do to avoid all that, just install Soulstorm and as long as you have your serial keys from any of the others in the series then you can have access to the other races.
Step-by-step multiplayer fix:
- Install Soulstorm (the latest expansion)
- Go into the directory where you installed it, copy Soulstorm.exe and paste a copy of it in the same directory.
- Rename it to DarkCrusade.exe
- Download the fix unlocker here or DDL here . Unzip it and run the unlocker.exe.
- It’ll ask you to search for where the DarkCrusade.exe so browse to it and select it.
- Now you’ll get a screen where you can enter whichever serials you have for the games. No need to select a patch version at the bottom.
- If you browse now to the game directory and if you had serials for all of the expansions and the original then you’ll find a W40k.exe and W40kWA.exe. Copy one of them and paste a copy in the same directory. Rename that file to DarkCrusade.exe after deleting that original one you arbitrarily made.
- Now when you load the game just enter the same serials for each game when it asks you and voila you’ll have all the races unlocked for multiplayer.

3I have legit CDs of all games ,but only soulstorm installed. When I run the dcunlock.exe it automatically comes up with the registration keys and doesn’t ask me to search for a darkcrusade.exe. I click ok and it says unlock successful but the WH40k and wh40kwa files dont appear…if i load up soulstorm it then says dark crusade is not installed properly and I still only have acecss to the soulstorm races for multiplayer
4Merl had the same problem as you before…I sent him a yousendit link with the exe’s and then it worked for him…I just sent them to your email. Let me know if it works out for you too.

7Ok guys im gonna be honest i use cracked soulstorm and i hve all the keys but when i enter winter assault in game it crashes and i tried other unlockers too and they crash the game before i cant enter the keys

11You need valid serials for each game/expansion you want to unlock. Sorry I can’t send you serials this post was only meant for people who own the games already and don’t want to install all of the games to save HDD space.
12Hey, I know I havent been here for a while, but I have fixed my problem with those invalid keys on my Vista64, it was pretty simple and found it out few mins after my last post (sorry for the HUGE delay tho…)
13Simply install the 3 .exe files in the C:/Program Files/THQ folder, beside the soulstorm folder and it worked perfectly,so…not in the soulstorm folder..hope that helps!

14Hey how do I undo everything this did? I decided to buy DC today and want to play the campaign but unfortunately have no knowledge of how to edit my registry
15nevermind I got it.
Might as well post how in case someone else needs help.
go to run-> regedit find the dark crusade folder and delete it
ALWAYS back this up before deleting anything

Sorry Ahmed but I can’t provide you serials…this advice was meant for people that own the games.

21the program has worked for lots of people already…make sure you follow the instructions step by step…if you want to go the original route of installing everything…I don’t think you need to delete anything in any special way…unless you modified the startup exe’s. I would just uninstall the program, delete any files left in the game directory then install everything the normal way after.

i have jus installed Soulstorm on my laptop that we have jus recently bouught and once i get to screen where i have to put in teh cd keys for dawn of war it says invalid cd key
and i also have another problem when i try to play online or create a username thing lol it says cd authentication failed
and sorry i dont have much knowledge of computers

First of all thanks a lot,
this seems to work for all games but Dark Crusade.
Having done everything as you said, the w40k.exe and w40kwa.exe do not work but if I run the original soulstorm.exe file the game works and indeed requests for the three serials.
while the first two seem to work well, when I enter the serial for Dark Crusade I get a message saying that Dark Crusade does not appear to be installed correctly. then the Tau and Necrons races are still locked. Note that if I enter a wrong serial key I get a different message saying the key is wrong, so this is not the problem.
I am running on windows vista by the way.

36When i start the game and try to put in the serial number for dark crusade it says it is not properly installed.
37I’m having another problem now as well. After doing all the above and unlocking the races, I am unable to download updates for the multiplayer game! When I click on the update to accept it, it just says “100%” and stays open infinitely.
Anyone else have this issue on Vista?

41I almost have the same problem…i installed all the games, and the cracks. Then I ran them all and they all worked. I ran thru the steps to unlock them and all of a sudden Soulstorm starts up, begins to load and crashes, back to windows with no error. Any thoughts?

It worked out fine for me after i did a few changes…
1-6)follow steps 1 to 6 of the unlocker
437)DO NOT rename w40k or w40kWA to DarkCrusade.exe, make a copy of either w40k or w40kWA, paste somewhere else, then rename it..
8)start soulstorm, it should ask CDkey of DoW, WA, and DC..
Thx, at first i had a prob the game crashed after entering keys, so i download both ur files from step 4 and 8 and copy pasted the files in 8 ( 4 files) into the orignial directory( overwrite soulstorm). then i ran the unlock of part 4 and put in keys. so now there should be 4 .exe files of the games in directory not one missing !!!. then i entered the game and keys and got all the races

45If you can’t get the Dark Crusade Races unlocked, and if you game crashes before you can even enter the Dark Crusade CD-key, Try this, worked for me:
Enter all keys on the dcunlock.exe like usual.
Then, for Dark Crusade, open up your registry and find
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\THQ\Dawn Of War]
If you have a string simply called “CDKEY” Check if it’s the serial you entered for Dark Crusade in dcunlock.exe
If it matches, simply change the string “CDKEY” into “DCXPCDKEY”
Then you should be able to play the game properly with both Tau and Necrons available and without crashes at the start.
