Back2Life (Health and Fitness – Progressive Review Journal)

January 17, 2009 By: Lukchin (admin) Category: FOOD, TRAVEL AND LIFE, Health and Fitness, VANCOUVER

Profile: Office worker / Gamer

Problems:  Wake up sometimes with lower back pain, sometimes just standing around get lower back stiffnes

Location: Vancouver, Canada

So I was up late one night watching infomercials and ended up ordering the Back2Life machine. I was suffering from not major but minor back pain.   I was afraid of it getting worse though so decided to try this machine.  I ordered it on January 9/09 and received it on January 14/09.  I chose the regular Canada shipping option and surprisingly didn’t have to pay custom and duties when it arrived.  Unless there’s a bill still to come in the mail for that but I don’t think so usually it’s COD.  I ordered it from the official website: http://www.getback2life.com

So I’ve been using it as instructed -  at least 2 times a day (morning and night) since I’ve received it so that’s 4 days now.  I can’t conclude whether it’s working or not yet as it could just be my frame of mind.  I did notice that the first time I used it my back did feel a little less stiff and I ‘think’ my back is feeling less sore in the mornings, but I won’t say that this thing has worked until all my back pain is gone which it isn’t yet.  The manual does mention to use it for a few weeks so I won’t give up on it yet.

In terms of the machine itself, it’s fairly well built…I’m sure it only cost them $20 to manufacture though so they marked it up like 10 times.  The two things that bother me about this machine is that while in use it squeaks a bit and it makes your calf muscles and feet get all tingly and sometimes even numb.

Anyway, I’ll come back and update this post every week to let you know how it’s progressing.  Of course if you have experiences with the machine then feel free to comment or if you have questions let me know.

Update – January 24, 2009 – 10 days of regular use:

I’ve been using the machine at least twice a day since receiving it. After about a week it was strange my back muscles were a different type of sore almost like the machine was working out muscles in my back! After a few days of that type of soreness I’m happy to report my back is feeling pretty good. Not totally free from soreness but doing a lot better than what it was before I started using the machine. I hope that it’s not all psychological but anyway things are going good so far. I’ll continue to use it and report back next weekend.

Update #2 – February 1, 2009 – 18 days of regular use.

My back is doing alright, sometimes it’s a bit sore but overall it’s doing pretty good.  I’m continuing to use the machine regularly and decided to continue using it until further notice.

Quick Bites: Fujiya

January 29, 2009 By: lixerx Category: Delish Eats, FOOD, TRAVEL AND LIFE

Fast food has evolved over the years where consumers have become more and more health conscious. And one cannot be faulted to think this way with the insurgence of health diseases, avian flu-like foods and unsafe products from China. At the same time, making the decision to eat healthier foods does not necessarily mean that the taste and joy of eating will be sacrificed. One may find many delicious and healthy food places in Vancouver just by asking the people around you. For instance, an acquaintance of mine recently introduced me to the local Fujiya supermarket which sells an extensive variety of authentic Japanese food. I was impressed wth the quailty and the price of the food that was ready to go. My favourite is the "Z Roll" which is a sushi roll that has rice, hamachi, albacore tuna, atlantic salmon, asparagus, cucumber, spicy mayonnaise, and seaweed. Fujiya carefully prepares their food in a reasonable portion for your convenience. The food tastes fresh which is important for sushi and sashimi and the chef does not pack in the rice. As a treat, I usually buy a small mochi which is a flour rice ball with a sweet paste. The bill ended up to be under ten dollars, now that is sweet! My only complaint is the lack of seating available in the dining area but this would not be a real problem if the sun is out, and there is a dry patch of grass for me to sit accompanied by a nice gentle breeze. I give Fujiya a 7/10 sushi rolls!

Momo Sushi (Downtown Vancouver – Sushi)

January 17, 2009 By: Lukchin (admin) Category: Delish Eats, FOOD, TRAVEL AND LIFE, VANCOUVER

Went to Momo on a recommendation from a friend.  Almost walked right by it because from the outside it just likes like a small hole in the wall.  Anyway, went in and it had it’s charm in atmosphere.  Chefs and waitresses seemed very friendly and actually Japanese.  The place was packed with people at the tables and with people waiting for takeout orders (this was about 12:05pm on a Friday).  We had to wait about 15 minutes to get a seat.  I think you should go at 11:45am if you want to get seated without waiting.

Anyway, sat down and ordered Box C and my friends ordered the Special A’s.  What value!  The Box C was $10 and the Special A was $7 I think.  They both came with miso soups and salads.  The quality of the food was great and value for sushi downtown ~ Amazing!  Definitely recommend going there.  One of my friends hurt us though in ordering a spicey scallop roll.  Presentation and quality was nice, but wow! the spiciness will OWN YOUR SOUL! Be Warned!

Overall rating: 9/10 (If the seating area was more spacious and a bit nicer in decor it would get 10/10)

Address and phone information:

6-375 Water Street, Vancouver, BC

(604)-683-7632

I haven’t tried making reservations but just looking at the way the restaurant is so busy and small I’m sure they don’t take them so go early.

SEDINS’ AGENT TALKS AHEAD OF MEETING WITH CANUCKS (Sports – Canucks)

September 09, 2008 By: Lukchin (admin) Category: Delish Eats

Source: TSN.ca

With all talk of Mats Sundin perhaps joining the Vancouver Canucks, it looks like the Vancouver Canucks might need to focus on a different Swede, or more accurately a pair of them.

According to the Team 1040 radio station, Henrik and Daniel Sedin , who are in the last year of their respective contracts will meet with new Canucks general manager Mike Gillis on Wednesday.

The Sedins are each entering the final year of a three-year, $10.75 million contract.  Their agent J.P. Barry told the Team 1040 that the purpose of the meeting is to find out if the Sedins are a part of the club’s long term plans.

"I think we just need to discuss where they (the Sedins) fit into the marketplace."  Barry told the Team 1040.  "We need to get into that kind of detail, and we haven’t gotten there.  We haven’t discussed term; we haven’t discussed their intention of what kind of term, or ours.  So, until we get thru those discussions and term, we probably won’t get to the dollar stage."

While specifics weren’t givin by Barry, his other comments point to the Sedins looking for a big raise.

"We just finished an extension negotiation for Shawn Horcoff , who did almost a carbon copy deal of the Sedins last time, and since that was done two years ago, Daniel and Henrik have outpaced him quite a bit offensively," Barry told the Team 1040.  "So, we’re going to see deals like that in the marketplace – the Gomez, Drury deal -  for players who go free.  They’ve outpaced both Gomez and Drury over the last three years.   You know, they’ve outscored those players, and those players went free, so I think the question is ‘What’s the price to stay, and what’s the price to go?’"

Barry also admitted to the Team 1040 that the Sedins would very likely already have signed contract extensions if former general manager Dave Nonis was still in charge.

"Well probably, I mean you’ve got a manager that’s been with them since they were 18 years old." Barry said.  "You know, the intention was there, so I would assume, based on our past dealings, that we would have likely gotten something done at that stage."

Sundin says ‘No’ to Canucks (Sports – Canucks Rumours / News)

September 06, 2008 By: Lukchin (admin) Category: Delish Eats

Source: The Province

Sundin narrows it down to two teams

The microscopic chances of Mats Sundin coming to play in Vancouver were further reduced in size on Friday when the free agent centre met with the Toronto Maple Leafs brass and his agent said the 37-year-old Swede would only play for the Leafs or one other NHL team.

Website tsn.ca, which reported the story, said that, according to sources, the other team is the Montreal Canadiens.

According to the website, Sundin and his agents – J.P. Barry and Claes Elefalk – met with Toronto Maple Leafs general manager Cliff Fletcher. Joe Nieuwendyk, recently hired as Fletcher’s assistant, was also present.

It was a very relaxed meeting," said Barry on AM640 Radio in Toronto. "It was a chance to reconnect since Mats was in town and talk about the changes on the Maple Leafs and make sure Mats was aware of everything that was going on with the team."

TSN sources say Sundin is also expected to meet or speak with the Montreal Canadiens before returning to Europe on Monday.

Sundin is in Toronto for the Festival Cup charity hockey game at Air Canada Centre.

Barry told radio station AM640 in Toronto that the decision was down to Toronto and another team.

"That’s the way he’s always felt," Barry told AM640.

Besides the Vancouver Canucks, which have a two-year, $20 million offer on the table to the longtime Maple Leafs captain, Sundin has been courted by Torono, Montreal and the New York Rangers.

H4GZ’s Take: Well at least the Canucks can get on with life now and pursue other options.  See ya Sundin!

Vancouver Canucks to Honour Luc Bourdon (Hockey – Canucks)

September 02, 2008 By: Lukchin (admin) Category: Delish Eats

Vancouver Canucks
Sep 2, 2008, 1:00 PM EDT
Vancouver, B.C. – The Vancouver Canucks announced today that they will honour the memory of former Canucks defenceman Luc Bourdon on October 9, 2008 prior to the Canucks home opener.

“Luc was an important part of our Canucks family. We want to make sure that everyone who Luc touched has the opportunity to celebrate his life and memory,” said Chris Zimmerman, President and CEO, Canucks Sports & Entertainment. “Luc was a special person in so many ways. He brought great spirit and determination to all that that he did on-ice or off. His passion for our game was always present whenever he was with fans, team personnel or helping in the community. Luc will be forever a Canuck.”

The Canucks are asking fans to join the team prior to the 7:30pm puck drop for a pre-game ceremony that will include a video tribute to the late Bourdon and a moment of silence. As fans arrive, they will be presented with a commemorative pin in honour of Bourdon.

The organization will continue to remember Bourdon throughout the season with an element added to each player’s helmet. Hosts at General Motors Place will also continue to wear the commemorative pin for all 41 regular season home games in 2008-09.
